The Field of Play

The field of play (also known as a football field, soccer field or football pitch) refers to the playing surface for football. A football pitch is usually made of natural or artificial turf, however in amateur teams may play on other types of pitch such as clay. The colour of artificial surfaces must be green.

According to the Laws of the Game, the touchline must be longer than the goal line.
